The full heat of summer in Provence has arrived. The flowers melt in the afternoon heat, as do I. The soundtrack of cicadas is as strong as the patsis I watch the old men drink under the shade of a tree. Villagers disappear from the blistering sun through shadowy corridors by old stone walls leaving afternoons slow and quiet. The landscape has begun to reflect that of the sun, golden fields of sunflowers and wheat. The lavender, once vibrant, has given way to the daily bleaching of the sun, oh but there is still life! Dotted on the tops in their perfectly neat rows are little white snails who crawl to the top to escape the heat... oh how I wish we could too.
