About the collaboration:
In the village of Apt-en-Luberon where both artist William Ruller and I live and work, there is a deep heritage for the past three centuries of earthenware, called faience, renowned for the natural quality of clays which is celebrated and collected all over France. Bringing the energy and aesthetics of our two artist studios in Provence together, we dreamed up a signature Provencal Artist Atelier Pot inspired by the cultural heritage of Apt, the colors of Provence, and how we both live and work in our creative spaces.
For me, this pot is the perfect flower vase to hold a hand bouquet cut from the garden mixed with greenery foraged from the natural landscape. For William, it is a catchall of paint brushes when the day is done. With its two small handles fashioned after French antique 19th century confit pots typically used for preserving duck, fruits, olives, and honey, this is a modern day interpretation of a heritage item found in every home in Provence for centuries.

Edition of 50, numbered, signed by the artist William Ruller, debossed with Jamie Beck's studio seal, and dated. Measures approximately 5.5 x 6.7 inches.
Each piece is hand-thrown and slight variations will occur.

About the artist:
William Ruller is an American artist with a Masters of Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design who has lived in France with his French wife, Elise, and their son Milo for the past five years. After teaching at SCAD in Provence's village of Lacoste, the family decided to move from Paris permanently making Apt-en-Luberon their home base finding the quality of life and small town community suitable for raising a family and creating art. In 2020 William opened his atelier and art gallery where he creates both paintings on canvas and paper as well as handmade ceramics and his work has been featured in multiple exhibitions at gallery spaces and cultural events around Provence. William's pottery work is inspired by traditional rustic French earthenware and a Japanese aesthetic in a signature blue-green hue reminiscent of olive trees that dot the landscape of France's southern region.
William's atelier and art gallery is located at 63 Rue de la République 84400 Apt open daily from 9am-12 pm or by appointment.
