Day 49 #isolationcreation ⠀

I was watching the world from the kitchen window as I do every day. Eloise likes to sit on the countertop and play with the spoons while I do the dishes. I watched as two Frenchmen, who obviously knew each other, approach from opposite sides of the square. Typically, in the region of France I inhabit, people kiss two to three times. Today, they awkwardly paused before one offered his elbow which, after a slight pause, was greeted to by his friend's. It was a fascinating thing to witness, a complete breakdown of cultural norms, an awkwardness of the moment we find ourselves in. ⠀

When I moved to New York and began working as a photographer in the fashion industry we always kissed, twice. The more intimately I knew you, the more inclined I was to give you a hug. A hug... ahh there are a lot of people I wish I could hug right now. I never appreciated the ability for an embrace until it was taken away from us. ⠀

I wonder, what will become of the french greeting kiss. The American handshake? The embracing hug? How long will this last, and how long can we live without it?
