Day 101 #isolationcreationpartdeux ⠀

“I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt⠀

I use my mantle space as a sort of cabinet of curiosities. It is always evolving with the seasons, with the flowers, new loves, and old loves. It’s the first thing I see when I walk in, these little artifacts of ideas and dreams, butterflies ready at a moment's notice to carry away the ideas of the day. ⠀

It is a mix of artifacts and organics. The new Provence locket in a century-old jewel box — two artifacts spanning different times. Tony’s dying roses and last summer’s peak lavender long dried out. A new friend’s art created with an antique box. It’s overlapping waves of time and bones, flesh and fodder. ⠀

I remember one evening we ate duck confit and I saved my bones and put them (much to @kevinburg’s horror) on the mantle. I thought they were beautiful and eventually made their way into a winter’s photograph. ⠀

Curiosity is a wonderful thing, strange and deeply personal, but absolutely necessary in building what will become our life.⠀
