Edition of 50
This limited edition print of "Vineyard #2" was photographed in the early days of harvest in the South of France, tucked away between Provence's historic hill top villages of Bonnieux and Lacoste, a spot I discovered on one of my many country bike rides. Shot on 4x5 black and white film, this image was hand processed, printed and pressed on Ilford fiber based archival and museum quality paper by the artist.
I chose 2018 to be represented by the vineyard harvest, for over time grapes have symbolized fertility and the gift of happiness and love, all elements I feel in abundance these days as we await the arrival of our of first child. Conceived with the first blossoms of spring and due in winter's eve, these robust clusters of grapes come with the promise of sustenance for the future, and the future I have carried inside me for much of this year.
I think about how transformative this human experience has been and I realize that birth and rebirth are not exclusive to us but are a natural cycle of life which touches upon everything. I walk through the vineyards of Provence and I find comfort in the wisdom of the old vines.
