Rose Month Day 22: The Rose Saint

We headed out to @alexisosmont today to meet up with our friends @lesoliviersdutaulisson. Part of the fun of doing a daily creative exercise like #RoseMonth is being open to where that day’s inspiration and subject matter will derive from in the moment. Over lunch in the garden my friends told me about a saint in Provence, Saint Roseline, dating from the 13th century. A short abbreviation of the story goes like this– Roseline was the daughter of an aristocratic family residing in a Château in Les Arcs-sur-Argens, in Provence. She would sneak food from the château to feed the poor in the village against her father’s wishes. One day he caught her and said to show him what she was hiding in her garment, in which, the miracle that it is - the pilfered food had turned into roses.

You can still to this day visit the saint in her resting place, in a glass coffin not unlike Snow White!

This photograph is inspired by her story. An aristocratic gown but revealed to be barefooted, as if “down to earth”, while at the same time levitating into her ascension as a saint. The butterflies are in harmony with the magic of the day, this day, when one seemingly adored Eloise’s aura (video in stories!). The floating heart with its antique linen embroidery of nature by artist @baucisetphilemon is an ode to what I worship, a subtle self biography in this self-portrait storytelling. And then there are the roses… cut from the garden of my friends @lesoliviersdutaulisson, a true gift of generosity and thoughtfulness in the same vein as the saintly gestures that lead us to this photograph.
